About Me

I began this journey as a DJ at Medusa’s in Chicago, at the time, the only all ages dance club in the city limits, while I was working at the Record Exchange with 2 of the best Alternative Dance DJ’s in the City, Leroy and Wilbur. They mentored me for several years and guided me as I made the move into the downtown Chicago club scene, even to this day, Leroy and I chat regularly. Sadly, Wilbur left us several years ago, but, will always be in our hearts. 

Someone recently said, you just like music, and well, so long as it’s good, I’ve come to believe they’re right, and I look forward to getting new music, looking for music that fits my sound and style of DJ nights, not to mention, working with couples on their wedding requests is really one of my favorite things. I’ve actually come across songs couples want that have made it into my regular sets. So yes, I do Love Music. From Chicago house, to Step, to punk and metal, country and bluegrass, there’s really not a genre of music I don’t enjoy. 

My love of music has led me down this path I’ve embarked on, from DJ’ing all over the Midwest, to playing the Vans Warped Tour, and even playing upright bass in the Chicago based bluegrass band, The Mudflapps. Music has always been the driving passion in my life. I honestly cannot remember a time in my life that music hasn’t been the constant. As I sit here writing this out now, I can still remember being maybe 3 or 4 years old, and once a week, waiting for my dad to bring me home the 45’s that were getting taken off of the Juke in his bar, and then spinning them on my lil kids 45 player. The Spinners, Earth wind and Fire, Jah Wobble, Boz Scaggs, yeah, I still really love that era of music, as good music has no expiration date, and to me, it’s all about the music.  

After starting back as a DJ full time in the La Crosse Market, I’ve been blessed to be able to work at some of the coolest places with some super cool folks. From the venues I’ve been at to working with some great organizations, it’s honestly been a dream come true. It’s given me time to hang with Mira, and dive head first into something I’ve fallen in love with doing. I’d like to think it shows. Being Nominated for the top DJ honors in La Crosse every year I’ve been a DJ here, and finishing in the winners circle for two years running, leaves me with goose bumps every time I think about it, and feel very fortunate that people do in fact enjoy what I do.

For me being a DJ is not a hobby. I spend countless hours working on my craft, booking, promotions, downloading music, as well as behind my decks. Basically, if I’m not with my daughter, I’m DJing or working on DJ related tasks, and there are even exceptions to that, as I try to DJ at as many functions that I can bring her with, and my daughter is one incredible roadie.

If you would like to catch me live, I am presently a resident DJ at Animal House, and the Driftless Arcade in La Crosse, Stadium View in Green Bay, Nightschool in Wausau, Lucky’s in Winona, Whiskey River – West Salem, City Sounds – Prairie Du Chien. Previously, I’ve been fortunate to DJ at some phenomenal places, from POETS, Mothers, and The Hang Upp in downtown Chicago, to Dooley’s and Legends in Rochester, and more, as I’ve been DJ’ing since I got my start 1989.

Ceremony Instrumentalist: In addition to being a DJ, I am also a Bluegrass and Folk musician. I offer live instrumental music performed on either guitar or mandolin.

Ceremony Officiator: I have been ordained, and am fully capable of officiating your big day!

Karaoke: Being the resident Karaoke Jockey at the Drifltess Arcade, I do offer Karaoke to any wedding that would love nothing more than to sing their favorite songs at their reception!

Video recording and streaming: I now offer streaming and video recording of the dance floor, and ceremony! Want to stream it all for guests that cannot be at your ceremony and reception? Now, you can do both! Please note, for streaming I do need an Internet signal.

Introduction

My name is Neil Kamrowski (DJ Neilix). Music has always been a big part of my life. From singing to the Bangles in the car as a young kid, to choir throughout school, and the many concerts I attended, it has been there for some of the best times of my life. I always wanted to learn to play guitar and sing. Eventually, I did learn to play, and I have played and sang live for various weddings, and events over the years. My love for music, and karaoke eventually got me into the DJ business. I started working for another local DJ until eventually I was able to begin my own business.

I have been a DJ in the area for more than 15 years. I have experience in Bar/Restaurant, Karaoke, Weddings, Reunions, Prom, and I do play live music if requested. I have been told that I have a great mic presence, and I keep guests involved and entertained.

Weddings

I always meet with a couple in person if possible before their wedding. The purpose is to get to know them, talk about their night, and what they are looking for their night to be like. I always ask my Brides or Grooms what kind of music they are looking for, or any special tunes they want to hear (or absolutely don’t want to hear). If I don't have a specific song you want, I will get it! I am professional in appearance, and performance, and my wish is to make your night the way you want your night to be or better. There is a saying that some DJ’s use and that is “every wedding is the Super Bowl”, and I take that saying to heart. This day is the day you will remember the rest of your life. If there is anything I can do to help make your memories better, just ask.

Neil was amazing! We received so many compliments throughout our entire wedding day about Neil and his services. Since we booked with Neil, he stayed in touch to make sure he knew what we wanted for our wedding and the dance. He was very accommodating and allowed us to meet via Zoom since we live outside of the area. He was very organized and provided us with a spreadsheet that helped us know exactly what the day looked like from him and had all our information in one place. Neil had never worked at our venue and arrived early to make sure he had enough time to set up and get situated.

We had Neil play his guitar and sing for cocktail hour and I cannot recommend it enough! He was wonderful and I had multiple guests come up and find me to tell me how much they enjoyed him playing during this time.

During the dance he kept the dance floor full. The only time the dance floor was smaller was when the late night pizza arrived and even then people returned to the dance floor with the food! He did a great job of honoring requests that he knew would keep the dance floor full as well.

We had to adjust a few things last minute but Neil was flexible with this which was very appreciated. He was so easy to work with and I did not stress about the music during our ceremony, cocktail hour or the dance at all! He checked in with me and my husband a few times and was helpful in making announcements and keeping us on track with our timeline of dinner, speeches and dances.

I cannot recommend Dj Neilix enough!

All of the songs for the ceremony were queued and played at the right time! He helped us with the timeline for speeches and got everyone on the dance floor!
